Abstract

The 2023 Indonesian Health Survey data shows that the prevalence of diabetes mellitus
in Indonesia is 1.7% across all age groups, with a sample size of 877,531 people. In West
Java, the prevalence of DM in 2023 reached 1.74% with an estimated 570,611 sufferers.
Prevention of diabetes complications requires optimal family support for effective
preventive behavior. This study aims to determine the relationship between family support
and diabetes complication prevention behavior in Diabetes Mellitus patients at Mitra
Plumbon Hospital, Majalengka, in 2025. The research method used a quantitative crosssectional design. The population was 188 people. The sample was selected using a
purposive sampling technique with 65 respondents. The research instrument used a
structured questionnaire. Bivariate analysis used the Spearman Rank test. The results
showed that most respondents' family support was in the sufficient category (60.0%),
while the majority of respondents' diabetes complication prevention behavior was in the
good category (41.5%). The statistical test results showed a significant relationship
between family support and diabetes complication prevention behavior in Diabetes
Mellitus patients at Mitra Plumbon Hospital, Majalengka in 2025 with a p-value of 0.005.
The conclusion of this study is that the better the family support, the better the
complication prevention behavior in DM patients. It is recommended that hospitals and
health workers improve education for patient families to strengthen the support provided
to DM patients so that they can prevent further complications..
