Abstract

Around 13% of adolescents aged 10-19 years experience mental disorders, mental health
is a cause of disability in the group of adolescents aged 15-19 years One of the factors that
affects mental health in adolescents is the negative parenting pattern given by parents
which includes restrictions, prohibitions, and interrogation or prohibitions that are given
continuously will be at risk for mental health.
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between parenting patterns
and mental health.
The design of this study used a quantitative design with a descriptive analytical method
with a cross-sectional study approach. With a sample of 72 grade VII students selected
with proportional random sampling. The instruments used were PBI for parenting patterns
and MHI-38 for mental health. With the results of indifferent or negleful parenting patterns
as many as (97.2%), authoritarian (1.4%), and permissive pampering (1.4%). With the
number of mental health psychological distress as much as (73.6%), and psychological
well-being as much as (26.4%). The results of the bivariate analysis showed a significant
relationship with the results of p value .000 between parenting patterns and adolescent
mental health at SMP Negeri 10 Cirebon City.
The suggestions are the basis for further, more in-depth research on other factors that
influence the relationship between parenting patterns and mental health in adolescents.
