Abstract

Self-control is an individual’s ability to be sensitive in reading situations to
control his behavior. Online game addiction is a form of addiction caused by
internet technology or better known as internet addiction disorders. This study
aims to determine the relationship between self-control and addiction to online
games in adolescents at SMAN 1 SALEM, Brebes District during June-July.
The result of the study showed that most of the respondents had low self-control
(62%) and most of the respondents experienced online game addiction in the
moderate category (48%). Speramen rank test result p-value 0,000 a = < 0,01,
then H0 = rejected, which means there is a relationship between self-control and
online game addiction in adolescents at SMAN 1 Salem, Regency. For
adolescents who have low self-control and moderate levels of addiction to be
more able to control and moderate levels of addiction to be more able to control
themselves in playing online games by paying attention to the duration or time of
playing online games.
