Abstract
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) represents a serious health problem requiring
routine hemodialysis therapy. Patient adherence to hemodialysis is influenced by
various factors, including self-efficacy. This study aimed to analyze the relationship
between self-efficacy and adherence to hemodialysis in CKD patients at Waled
Regional General Hospital, Cirebon Regency. Using a cross-sectional design, the
study recruited 86 patients through purposive sampling. Data were collected using
the Chronic Kidney Disease Self-Efficacy (CKD-SE) instrument and End-Stage
Renal Disease Adherence Questionnaire (ESRD-AQ), then analyzed using
Spearman's rank correlation test. Results showed that 69.8% of respondents had
high self-efficacy, while 60.5% demonstrated good adherence to hemodialysis
therapy. Statistical analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between self-
efficacy and treatment adherence (ρ=0.659, p<0.001). These findings indicate that
self-efficacy plays a crucial role in improving hemodialysis adherence among CKD
patients. Therefore, interventions focusing on enhancing self-efficacy through
health education and psychosocial support should be optimized to improve patient
compliance.
