Abstract

Emergency Department (ED) services require accurate initial patient
assessment through a triage system. The accuracy of triage is essential to ensure
that critically ill patients receive prioritized care, which is expected to increase
patient satisfaction. This study aims to examine the relationship between the
accuracy of the triage system and the level of patient satisfaction in the
Emergency Department of Mitra Plumbon Hospital, Cirebon.
This research used a quantitative method with a descriptive correlational
approach and a cross-sectional design. A total of 73 respondents were selected
using accidental sampling. The data collection instruments included a triage
accuracy questionnaire and a patient satisfaction questionnaire. Data were
analyzed using the Spearman correlation test.
The results showed that 91.8% of respondents received accurate triage.
Most patients were fairly satisfied (41.1%) or satisfied (32.9%). The Spearman
test revealed a significant positive correlation (p = 0.017; r = 0.280) between
triage accuracy and patient satisfaction.
In conclusion, the more accurate the triage system applied, the higher the
level of patient satisfaction. Therefore, improving nurse competency in triage
decisions is essential to maintain quality emergency services.
