Abstract

The surgical process has several complications, one of which is pain. Postoperative pain is one of the most commom causes of pain, with more than 80% of postoperative patients experiencing painn with moderate to severe pain intensity. Postoperative pain will cause physical and psychological reactions such as difficulty sleeping. Poor sleep quality that is not properly addressed can increase the negative impact on health levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between pain levels and sleep quality in post-appendectomy patients at Mitra Plumbon Cirebon Hospital.
This type of research uses quantitative research with a descriptive correlational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study was post appendectomy patients at Mitra Plumbon Cirebon Hospital, and the sampling technique used the purposive sampling method of 15 people. Data collection used observation sheets and questionnaires. Data analysis was carried out using univariate analysis with percentages and bivariate analysis with the chi-square test (X2).
The results showed that most respndents (53.3%) experienced moderate pain and most respondents (66.7%) experienced poor sleep quality. The results of the chi-square (X2) statistical test obtained a p value = 0.016<α (0.05), indicating that Ha is acccepted, meaning there is a correlation between pain levels and sleep quality in post-appenndectomy patients at Mitra Plumbon Cirebon Hospital.
It is expected that nurses can provide non-pharmacological intervention education as an effort to improve pain levels and sleep quality in appendectomy patients
