Abstract

The success of tuberculosis (TB) treatment is not only determined by medical
aspects, but is also influenced by individual patient characteristics, including their
level of education and knowledge about the disease and its treatment. This study
aims to determine the level of education and knowledge about medication taking in
patients with pulmonary TB in the outpatient clinic of Sumber Kasih Hospital,
Cirebon.
This study used a descriptive approach. The sample consisted of 87 pulmonary TB
patients. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. The
research instrument was a questionnaire. The data analysis in this study used
univariate analysis using the chi-square test.
The results showed that of the 87 respondents, the majority of pulmonary TB
patients had a secondary education (47.1%). The level of knowledge of pulmonary
TB patients regarding medication administration showed that nearly half of the
respondents had good knowledge (44.8%).
In conclusion, most pulmonary TB patients at the Outpatient Clinic of Sumber
Kasih Hospital Cirebon had a secondary education level, good knowledge. These
findings suggest that education and knowledge contribute to patient adherence
behavior. Therefore, healthcare professionals should focus interventions on patient
education, motivation, and assistance to maintain and improve adherence
throughout TB treatment.
