Abstract
Adolescents are individuals aged 10 to 24 years who are in an important phase of
searching for their identity and are greatly influenced by the social environment
around them. One of the factors that can influence the development of adolescent
self-image is body shaming treatment. This study aims to determine the
relationship between body shaming treatment and self-image in adolescents at
SMPN 1 Pabuaran Subang.
This study uses a quantitative method with a correlational design and a cross-
sectional approach. The research sample consisted of 84 respondents taken using
the proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The instrument used was
a questionnaire that had been modified from previous research. Data analysis
was carried out using the chi-square test.
The results showed that most respondents rarely received body shaming treatment
(41.7%) and a small portion had never experienced it (15.5%). In addition, more
than half of the respondents had a positive self-image (54.8%), while the other
45.2% had a negative self-image. Statistical tests showed that there was a
significant relationship between body shaming treatment and self-image in
adolescents at SMPN 1 Pabuaran Subang (p-value = 0.000; p <0.05).
The suggestion in this study is for schools to improve education and socialization
regarding the negative impacts of body shaming in order to create a more positive
school environment and support the development of adolescent self-image
