Abstract

There are 204 people suffering from hypertension in the Sukra Health Center
Working Area. Hypertension if systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic
blood pressure ≥90 mmHg. Providing acupressure therapy is a nonpharmacological (complementary) treatment for hypertension sufferers by pressing
the fingers on the surface of the skin, where the massage or pressure can reduce
tension, increase blood circulation and stimulate the body's energy power to heal
and make healthy, lowering blood pressure in hypertension. The aim of this study
was to determine the effect of acupressure therapy on the blood pressure of
hypertension sufferers in the Sukra Community Health Center working area. This
type of quantitative research uses pre-experiments. This design does not have a
control group or comparison group, the researcher makes the first observation
(Pretest) which is used by the researcher to test the changes that occur after
(Posttest) the experiment or program. The population in this study were all
hypertensive patients in the Sukra Health Center Working Area. The sample size
for this research was 30 respondents using a purposive sampling technique, namely
a random sampling methodology where the sample group was targeted to have
certain attributes, and using a paired sample t-test data analysis test.
The results of univariate analysis from 30 respondents showed that the mean blood
pressure value before being given acupressure therapy was 2.348. Then after
carrying out acupressure therapy the mean value became 2.333. The results of
bivariate analysis using the paired sample t-test showed a significance value of
0.000 < 0.05.
The conclusion of this study is that acupressure therapy can make a difference in
reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients, namely that there is a decrease
in blood pressure after acupressure therapy. Suggestions in this research: This
research can be used as an alternative in non-pharmacological treatment of
hypertension.
