Abstract

Family support is the most influential factor in the quality of life of the elderly, compared
to other factors. This is because family support can increase self-confidence in the elderly
and motivate the elderly in living their lives. Quality of life in the elderly is important
because the quality of life of the elderly is an indicator of successful aging, namely when
the elderly feel well in their lives. The purpose of this study was to determine the
relationship between family support and quality of life in the elderly in tejamulya village,
argapura puskesmas working area, majalengka district.
This study uses quantitative methods using a correlational design with a cross sectional
approach. The population in this study were elderly residents of tejamulya village, argapura
sub-district, majalengka district, totaling 313 elderly people and the sampling technique
used the slovin formula 76 respondents. The research instrument used a questionnaire based
on WHOQOL-BREF and data analysis using the Spearman Rank test.
The results of the Spearman rank test obtained P value = 0.001 <0.05, it means that there
is a significant relationship between family support variables and quality of life in the
elderly with a correlation coefficient of 0.489 indicating the strength of the correlation
relationship between family support variables and quality of life in the moderate category.
The conclusion of the results of this study found that most respondents had family support
in the supportive category as many as 56 respondents (73.7%) and most of the quality of
life was sufficient as many as 43 respondents (56.6%).With the results of the spearman
rank test obtained P value = 0.001 <0.05, it means that there is a significant relationship
between family support variables and quality of life in the elderly in tejamulya village,
argapura health center working area, majalengka district.
