Abstract

Post-major surgery patients often experience sleep disturbances due to pain
experienced after surgery. Pain can affect the sleep cycle, thereby slowing down the
healing process. This study aimed to determine the relationship between pain level
and sleep quality in post-major surgery patients at Arjawinangun Regional General
Hospital, Cirebon Regency. This research used a quantitative descriptive
correlational approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 49 post-major
surgery patients were selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used
were the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) to measure pain levels and the Pittsburgh
Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to assess sleep quality. Data were analyzed using the
Chi-Square test. The results showed that most respondents experienced moderate

pain (67.3%) and had poor sleep quality (71.4%). The Chi-Square test showed a p-
value of 0.000, indicating a significant relationship between pain level and sleep

quality. It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between pain
level and sleep quality in post-major surgery patients.
