A DESCRIPTION OF PERSONAL HYGIENE KNOWLEDGE AMONG STUDENTS AT KARYA WINAYA'S STATE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CIREBON CITY

Personal hygiene is an individual's effort to maintain cleanliness and health, which plays

a crucial role in preventing various infectious diseases, especially in elementary school-
aged children. Knowledge of personal hygiene in school-aged children is crucial because

it will influence future hygiene habits and behaviors.
This study aimed to determine the level of personal hygiene knowledge among
fourth and fifth-grade students at Karya Winaya Elementary School, Cirebon City. This
was a descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted
of 58 fourth and fifth-grade students, selected using a total sampling technique. Data
were collected using a personal hygiene knowledge questionnaire and analyzed
univariately.
Data processing showed that students' knowledge levels regarding personal hygiene were
categorized as good, sufficient, and poor, with the percentage distribution of each
category determined based on scores from eight questionnaire items.
The majority of students had sufficient to good knowledge regarding personal hygiene. An
active role for teachers and parents is needed to improve knowledge and habits of clean
and healthy living from an early age to prevent disease.
