Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that cannot be cured and requires
lifelong treatment. This requires adherence to treatment to control blood pressure
and prevent complications. This study aims to determine the relationship between
medication adherence and the degree of hypertension in hypertensive patients.
This research method uses a quantitative research type with a cross-sectional
approach. The population in this study were hypertension sufferers from January
to June 2025. The sample in this study was obtained as many as 90 respondents.
The sampling technique in this study used purposive sampling. The instruments
used were the MMAS-8 medication adherence questionnaire and blood pressure
measurement observations. Statistical analysis in this study used the Chi-Square
test.
The results of this study showed that compliance with taking medication was
obtained by 56 respondents (62.2%) in the non-compliant category and the degree
of hypertension was obtained by 55 respondents (61.1%) with the category of grade
I hypertension. The results of the chi-square test obtained p value = 0.005 (p <0.05)
so H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted which means there is a significant
relationship between compliance with taking medication and the degree of
hypertension in hypertension sufferers in the Pamengkang Community Health
Center Working Area, Cirebon Regency.
The results of this study are expected to encourage hypertension sufferers to be
more compliant in following their treatment program by taking antihypertensive
medication to stabilize their blood pressure and prevent further increases in the
severity of hypertension.
