Abstract

Personal hygiene is a vital aspect in maintaining the health of the elderly. As people
age, their ability to care for themselves decreases, making family support essential.
The role of the family as motivator, educator, and facilitator is crucial to ensure
that elderly individuals can maintain good personal hygiene. This study aims to
determine the relationship between family roles and personal hygiene among the
elderly in Jagapura Village, Cirebon Regency. This research used a quantitative
approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 99 elderly individuals were
selected using random sampling. The instruments used were questionnaires on
family roles and personal hygiene. Data were analyzed using univariate and
bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test. The majority of the elderly had good
family support (72.7%) and fulfilled personal hygiene (77.8%). The statistical test
showed a significant relationship between family roles and personal hygiene among
the elderly, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). There is a significant relationship
between family roles and personal hygiene in the elderly. Optimal family support
enhances personal hygiene and overall well-being in older elderly.
