Abstract
The incidence of diarrhea is quite high in children aged 1-4 years. One important factor that
influences this is the mother's knowledge about the causes, prevention, and treatment of
diarrhea. This lack of knowledge can cause delays in initial treatment and increase the risk of
more serious complications in children. The purpose of this study was to determine the
relationship between maternal knowledge and the incidence of diarrhea in children aged 1-4
years at Ciremai Hospital, Cirebon City. The design of this study was cross-sectional. The
instrument used was a questionnaire sheet, the number of samples was 68 people. The sampling
technique in this study was a simple random sampling technique using univariate and bivariate
analysis with the chi-square test.
The results showed that 42 respondents (61.8%) had sufficient knowledge, and 53 respondents
(77.9%) had children with acute diarrhea. The results of the analysis showed a significant
relationship between maternal knowledge and the incidence of diarrhea in children aged 1-4
years, with a p value = 0.000 ≤ α (0.05).
It is expected that the hospital can integrate Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS)
education into maternal and child health services. This education can be provided through
routine counseling during check-up visits, immunizations, or outpatient services.
