Abstract

Adolescents are in transitional phase from childhood to adulthood, marked by the onset of
puberty. In female adolescents, puberty triggers the maturation of the reproductive system,
characterized by the beginning of menstruation as a result of hormonal activity. According
to Lazarus and Folkman, stress experienced by an individual is actually under their own
control, as the sources of the problem lies in how the individual perceives it. Perception is
a process carried out by the brain to interpret sensory information and transform it into a
meningful representation of the surrounding world. Each person has different perceptions
depending on what is received by their senses. Therefore, the same situation can result in
different levels of stress in each individual, depending on how they interept it. The purpose
of this research to determine the relationship between stress levels and the menstrual cycle
among female students at Madrasah Aliyah Swasta Rabithatul Ulum, Indramayu Regency.
This research method uses a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The
population in this study consist of all female students in grade X and XI totaling 46 people

with a total sampling technique. The instrument used are the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-
10) questionnaire and a menstrual cycle questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using

univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with tehe Spearman-Rho test. The results of the
study indicate that the majority of students experience moderate stress with 29 individuals
(63.0%) and the majority have an abnormal menstrual cycle with 34 students (73.9%). The
results of the Spearman-Rho test analysis show a significant relationship between stress
levels and menstrual cycles with a p-value of 0.001. This means, there is a significant
relationship between stress levels and menstrual cycles in female students at Madrasah
Aliyah Swasta Rabithatul Ulum, Indramayu Regency.
