Smoking is a problem that can cause significant harm in terms of
socioeconomics, health, and even death. The 2018 Basic Health Research
(Riskesdas) recorded an increase in the prevalence of smoking among 18-yearsold from 7.2% to 9.1%, placing Indonesia as the third-highest number of active
smokers in the world. This situation highlights the importance of examining the
relationship between social environment and smoking behavior among students
at Public Vocational High School 8 Garut Regency.
The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between social
environment and smoking behavior among students at Public Vocational High
School 8 Garut Regency.
This research method was quantitative with a cross-sectional design. A

propotional random sampling. Data collection used a questionnaire.

poor social environment while most (48.8%) respondents had heavy smoking
behavior. Specifically, analysis with Chi Square shows there is a relationship
between the social environment and smoking behavior in students, the result
obtained p-value = 0.000 is <0.05 indicates a significant relationship between
the social environment and smoking behavior. It is expected that students can
