Abstract

Waste management in Indonesia is a complex problem that has not been
handled properly. Public access, especially to all information related to knowledge
and understanding of waste management, must be improved, one of which is by
providing health education through health counseling activities related to waste
management. This study was conducted to determine whether there is an effect of
health counseling on knowledge of waste management.
The research method used pre-experiment with one group pretest-posttest
design. The population was all students in grades 4, 5, and 6 of MIN 1 Majalengka
totaling 93 people. The sample in this study was 75 people using proportionate
stratified random sampling technique. The instruments used were observation
sheets and questionnaires. Data analysis in this study used univariate analysis and
bivariate analysis.
The results of the study showed that there was a difference in knowledge before and
after health education. Before health education, the frequency distribution of good
knowledge was 35 people (46.7%), sufficient knowledge was 38 people (50.7%),
and poor knowledge was 2 people (2.7%). While after health education, the
frequency distribution of good knowledge was 70 people (93.3%), and sufficient
knowledge was 5 people (6.7%). The p-value of 0.000 indicates a p-value <a, which
means a value of 0.000 <0.05, so the decision Ho is rejected, it can be concluded
that there is an effect of health education on knowledge of waste management.
It is hoped that the relevant agencies will increase health education and
educate students about waste management.
