Abstract
Blood sugar levels are one form of carbohydrate metabolic products that serve as the
main source of insulin-controlled energy. Excess glucose is converted into glycogen
and then stored in the liver and muscles as a reserve if needed by the body. The
purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of red ginger water decoction on
changes in blood sugar levels in patients with type II diabetes mellitus in the working
area of the watubelah health center, Cirebon Regency. The research method uses a
pre experimental design by using a one group pre test post test approach. The sample
of this study was type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in the Watubelah health center
work area, totaling 30 respondents by sampling with minimal sampling, the sampling
technique was strata sampling. Measuring instruments used GCU, observation sheet,
SOP for making red ginger. Data analysis using non-parametric statistical tests in the
form of the Wilcoxon test with a significant degree a <0.05. The results of the
analysis of this study by measuring blood sugar levels before giving red ginger water
decoction with average results 288.73. blood sugar levels after giving red ginger
water decoction obtained average results 237.8. The results showed that there was an
effect of giving red ginger water decoction on changes in blood sugar levels in
patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the working area of the watubelah health
center, Cirebon Regency with a significant value (2-tailed) 0.000 or <0.05.
Red ginger decoction can control blood sugar levels because the active ingredients
are gingerol and shogaol. Which helps increase the absorption of glucose by muscle
cells without using insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the watubelah
health center, Cirebon district.
