Abstract

Stunting is a developmental disorder in children caused by persistent malnutrition
and repeated attacks of infection, which are characterized by short or very short stature.
Stunting is defined as a child under the age of 5 years with a height-for-age z-score (TB/U)
below -2SD and below -3SD. Poor environmental sanitation can trigger digestive disorders
which affect the intake of nutrients needed for growth, which can then lead to a decrease
in the body's resistance to infection and increase the risk of stunting in toddlers. In 2022
the stunting rate in Argasunya Village is 12.35% and based on data for 2021 there are 1396
(42,3%) houses that do not meet the requirements for healthy homes. This study aims to
determine the relationship between sanitation in the family environment and the incidence
of stunting in toddlers in working area of Sitopeng Public Health Cente Cirebon City in
2023.
The research design uses analytic observational with a cross sectional approach.
The instruments used were interviews and observations. The number of samples is 96
toddlers. This research was conducted in the work area of Sitopeng Public Health Center,
Cirebon City. The sampling technique for this study was simple random sampling using
univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using the chi-square test.
From the results of statistical tests using the chi-square test obtained p-value =
0.002 (< (0.05)) which means Ho is rejected or H1 is accepted which indicates a significant
relationship between family environmental sanitation and the incidence of stunting in
toddlers in the working area of Sitopeng Public Health Center Cirebon City.
It is hoped that the results of this research can encourage an increase in
environmental sanitation programs in settlements to avoid infectious diseases that can
trigger stunting.
