EFFECT OF COUNSELING USING THE PICTURE AND PICTURE METHODE ON STUDENTS' BEHAVIOR OF HANDWASHING WITH SOAP AT KEJAKSAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CIREBON CITY

Washing hands with soap is very important because hands are often carriers of
bacteria and cause the transmission of pathogens from person to person. Focus on
handwashing with soap for school children as agents of change to become better in
healthy behavior through handwashing with soap, because during this period it is easier
to educate than before and after. One effort to realize a behavior of washing hands with
soap properly is by counseling using the picture and picture method, this method is the
activity of providing education through pictures that are sorted into a logical sequence.
This study aims to determine the effect of counseling using the picture and picture method
on the behavior of washing hands with soap at the Kejaksan Elementary School, Cirebon
City.
The research design used a quasi experiment with one group pretest-posttest. The
population is all students in grades 4 and 5 at Kejaksan SDN Cirebon City, consisting of
40 students. The sample technique in this study uses total sampling. The instrument used
in this research is observation. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately.
The results showed an increase in the mean from 2.35 to 4.90 with a difference of
2.55. The statistical test uses a paired t-test with a p value of 0.000 and a value of ∝ =
0.05. means that the p value is 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that the results of Ho are
rejected, meaning that there is an influence of counseling using the picture and picture
method on the behavior of washing hands with soap at the Public Prosecutor's
Elementary School, Cirebon City.
It is hoped that the agency will further improve health promotion programs for
school-age children regarding the importance of washing hands with soap properly.
