Abstract

Personal hygiene is an effort made by someone to maintain their own health to avoid
various diseases, especially scavenger workers who have a very high risk of
contracting skin diseases because scavengers work in an environment that is not
conducive, namely in direct contact with garbage. Complaints of skin disorders are
itching(morning, afternoon, evening, or throughout the day), red spots/ bumps/bullae
filled with clear liquid or pus on the surface of the body, rashes appear. This study
aims to determine the relationship between personal hygiene and complaints of skin
disorders in scavengers at the Kopi Luhur TPA Sitopeng Community Health Center,
Cirebon City.
This research method is quantitative with cross sectional design. The population of
this study were all scavengers in the Kopi Luhur landfill, consisting of 158 people.
The sampling technique used was Accidental Sampling with a measurement
technique using the slovin formula, as many as 66 people. The instrument used is a
questionnaire. The data analysis used was univariate and bivariate analysis.
The results of the analysis using univariate analysis with the chi square test obtained
a p value of 0.000. So the conclusion of this study shows that there is a relationship
between personal hygiene and complaints of skin disorders in scavengers at TPA
Kopi Luhur. It is hoped that the results of this study can increase knowledge about
personal hygiene and be able to apply it in everyday life so as to avoid complaints of
skin disorders.
