Abstract

One of the causes of hypertension is poor diet. Hypertension is a long-term medical
condition in which blood pressure in the arteries continues to increase. The aim of this
study was to determine the relationship between diet and the incidence of hypertension in
the elderly in the Talun Health Center working area, Cirebon Regency. This research
uses quantitative methods using a correlational design with a cross sectional approach.
The population in this study were elderly people in the working area of the Talun Health
Center, Cirebon Regency, totaling 307 elderly people and the sampling technique used
the Slovin formula for 76 respondents. The research instrument used a dietary pattern
questionnaire and data analysis used the chi square test.
The results of this research showed that the majority of respondents had bad eating
patterns, namely 56 people (73.7%). And they had hypertension (≥ 140/90 mmHg). The
results of Chi Square analysis for the dietary pattern variable with the incidence of
hypertension show that the p value of 0.000 is less than α (0.05) so that there is a
relationship between dietary pattern and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly in
the working area of the Talun Health Center, Talun District, Cirebon Regency.
