THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAMILY SUPPORT AND THE INCIDENCE OF DEPRESSION IN THE ELDERLY IN MANISLOR VILLAGE

The increase in the number of elderly people is currently a significant
problem around the world. Aging is a natural process that occurs in every person.
The elderly will not be able to compensate, so they feel they have lost the character
that was inherent in them when they were young, feel isolated due to the loss of a
life partner, or an unsupportive environment, so that the level of depression
increases. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between
family support and the incidence of depression in the elderly in Manislor Village.
This research design is descriptive correlation with a cross sectional
approach. The population in this study was 77 elderly people in Manislor Village
sampling using non probability sampling method with porpusive sampling
technique. This research instrument uses a guttman scale questionnaire for family
support with validity results (r table 0.361 < a 0.60) and for the geriatric depression
scale questionnaire for the incidence of depression with the results of the validity of
the geriatric depression scale-15 (GDS-15) questionnaire with 92% sensitivity and
89% specificity.
The results of this study indicate that the relationship between family
support and the incidence of depression in the elderly in Manislor Village is eligible
as many as 72 (93.5%) support and as many as 5 (6.5%) do not support and with
mild depression as many as 53 (68.8%), normal as many as 13 (15.9%), moderate
as many as 10 (13.0%) and severe as many as 1 (1.3%). From a 0.05. The results
show that Ha is accepted, meaning that there is a relationship between family
support and the incidence of depression in the elderly in Mansilor Village.
It is expected that families pay great attention to the elderly so that the
elderly do not feel abandoned by the closest people in their lives.
