Abstract
Cataracts cause clouding due to the water and protein content in the lens becoming cloudy
so that light entering the retina becomes unfocused (AOA, 2019). According to the Career
Development Center in America, the number of cataracts is estimated at 20.5 million. The
number of cataract sufferers at the Cirebon City Indera Clinic is 124 in December 2023.
The aim of this research is to identify whether there is a relationship between spiritual wellbeing and anxiety in pre-operative cataract patients at the Cirebon City Indera Clinic.
This type of research is descriptive correlational. The population of pre-cataract surgery
at the Cirebon City Indera Clinic was 124 in December 2023, and the sample consisted of
95 respondents. Samples were taken using a purposive sampling technique for spiritual
well-being instruments using the SWBS (Spiritual Well_Being Scalle) questionnaire and
anxiety using the APAIS (Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale)
questionnaire. Data analysis used the Spearman rank test with a p value of 0.000.
The research results showed that the average age was 65 years, the youngest age was 18
years and the oldest age was 80 years. Spiritual well-being was high in 97.9% respondents
and mild anxiety in 86.3%. There is a significant, strong and negative relationship between
spiritual well-being and anxiety in pre-cataract surgery patients (p value = 0.000; α=0.1).
The higher the spiritual well-being, the lighter the anxiety. The research is expected to
improve cognitive and psychomotor skills related to providing palliative nursing care to
cataract patient.
