THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAMILY SOCIAL SUPPORT AND DEPRESSION LEVELS IN THE ELDERLY IN KARYA MULYA KESAMBI CITY CIREBON

Elderly is the final stage of the human life cycle, changes in physical appearance
that are part of the normal aging process, such as decreased accuracy of the five
senses, decreased endurance. They also lose the ability to earn income and social
status. The above conditions make the elderly vulnerable to mental health problems,
one of which is depression. The purpose of this study was to determine the
relationship between family social support and the level of depression in the elderly
in Karya Mulya Village, Kesambi District, Cirebon City.
This type of research is a quantitative descriptive correlation with a cross-sectinal
approach. Sampling using porpusive sampling technique totaling 95 respondents.
The instruments used were a questionnaire on family social support and the GDS
(Geriatric Depression Scale). Data analysis used the Spearman rank test. The
research location is in Karya Mulya Village, Kesambi District, Cirebon City during
May-June 2023
