Abstract

Background: Hyperbilirubinemia is a clinical condition most commonly found in
newborns. Intensive treatment of infants treated for hyperbilirubinemia will cause
anxiety and concern for the baby's mother. The anxiety response is the most
common thing that mothers experience when there are health problems in their
babies. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the picture of the
level of maternal anxiety towards babies with hyperbilirubinemia at Mitra
Plumbon Indramayu Hospital. Methods: A type of quantitative research using
descriptive methods. The population in this study was all mothers who had babies
treated for hyperbilirubinemia at Mitra Plumbon Indramayu Hospital. A sample of
30 respondents was obtained by accidental sampling technique. The research
instrument used was the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) questionnaire.
Data analysis using univariate analysis.
The results of this study showed that of the 30 respondents, most respondents
(63.3%) experienced moderate anxiety, and almost half (36.7%) experienced mild
anxiety. It concluded that most respondents experienced moderate levels of
anxiety. Therefore, nurses are expected to focus more on things related to anxiety
of mothers who experience anxiety when their babies undergo treatment.
