RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAMILY SUPPORT AND THE ABILITY TO SELF CARE FOR STROKE PATIENTS IN THE ELDERLY IN THE WORKING AREA OF THE SUNGAIBUNTU COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER KARAWANG REGENCY

Family support is very important in the recovery phase of for stroke sufferers and
doing Self Care to maintain physical and psychological health. Stroke can affect
sleep quality, impaired vision, hearing, communication difficulties, and cognitive
impairment. The research method is descriptive correlational with cross sectional
approach. The sample of this study were elderly stroke patients in the sungaibuntu
public health center, karawang regency. The instrument used was a
questionnaire, conducted on june 15 – june 22, 2023. These univariate results
were in the good category with 58 respondents (81,7%) and Self Care abilities in
the heavy dependency category of 30 respondents (42,3%) in patients stroke in the
elderly in the work area of the sungaibuntu public health center karawang
regency, the results of the Spearmen rank test obtained p-value of 0,006, there
was a relationship between support and the ability to Self Care for stroke patients
in the elderly in the working area of the sungaibuntu health center karawang
regency. It is expected that families provide good family support so that stroke
patients can carry out Self Care properly to maintain physical and psychological
health.
