Abstract
There are 10 basic components of recovery for patients with mental disorders, one
of which is non-linear and peer support and family support which are very much needed
by patients with mental disorders in motivating them during care and treatment. Based
on the results of a preliminary study of 20 patient families at the polyclinic, patients had
experienced relapses ≥ 2 times in the past year which was also due to a lack of good
support from their families. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship
between family support and the period of relapse of patients with mental disorders at
Mitra Plumbon Hospital.
The study used a correlational description research design with a cross-sectional
approach. The population and sample in this study were all family members who
accompanied patients with mental disorders who underwent control at Mitra Plumbon
Hospital, Cirebon Regency, with a total of 33 families. The research instrument used a
questionnaire sheet. The results of the study were analyzed through univariate and
bivariate tests.
Almost half of the respondents provided less support to people with mental illness
(42.4%) and almost half provided good support (39.4%). Nearly half of the patients
experienced a low relapse rate (45.5%) and almost half had a high relapse rate (49.4%).
The results of the bivariate test with a p value of 0.008 (≤0.05). There is a significant
relationship between family support and the relapse period of people with mental
disorders at Mitra Plumbon Hospital in 2024. It is recommended that the hospital and
nurses increase efforts to reduce the relapse period in people with mental disorders
through family support.
