Abstract

Wrong and less effective breastfeeding techniques can result in breast milk not
coming out optimally, affecting subsequent milk production or the baby being reluctant to
breastfeed. It requires the ability to apply appropriate breastfeeding techniques so that it
is effective. A problematic phenomenon that usually occurs in primiparous patients is the
mother's ineffectiveness in carrying out the correct breastfeeding technique because of her
ignorance regarding the correct breastfeeding technique and attachment. The results of a
preliminary study of 10 primiparous mothers with spontaneous labor in Inpatient Room 4
at Mitra Plumbon Hospital, Cirebon Regency, showed that almost all of them had difficulty
in the process of giving breast milk to their babies. The aim of this study was to determine
the relationship between breastfeeding techniques and the effectiveness of breastfeeding
among postpartum mothers in Inpatient Room 4 at Mitra Plumbon Hospital.
The research design used in this research is a correlational analytical research
design with a cross sectional approach. The population and sample of this study were
primiparous postpartum women with spontaneous labor who were treated in Inpatient
Room 4 at Mitra Plumbon Hospital, Cirebon Regency with a total of 36 patients. The
research instrument uses an observation sheet. The research data were analyzed through
univariate and bivariate tests.
Almost half of them have good breastfeeding techniques, namely 17 respondents
(47.2%). Almost half of them had a very effective level of breastfeeding effectiveness,
namely 17 respondents (47.2%). Statistical test results using the Chi-Square test where p
is 0.000 (< 0.05).
There is a relationship between breastfeeding technique and the effectiveness of
breastfeeding in postpartum mothers in inpatient ward 4 Mitra Plumbon Hospital. For
hospitals and nurses to improve services to postpartum mothers, especially in terms of
improving the technique and effectiveness of postpartum mothers in breastfeeding.
Key words: breastfeeding techniques, effectiveness, postpartum mothers
