Abstract
Dysmenorrhea is a complaint that is often experienced by women when menstruating. One
of the risk factors for dysmenorrhea is physical activity. Physical activity can stimulate the
release of endorphins, which can cause a feeling of comfort and produce short-term nonspecific analgesics. In addition, physical activity can reduce the effects of prostaglandins,
which can prevent pain during menstruation. The aim of this study was to analyze the
relationship between physical activity and menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) in adolescent
girls.
This research uses a quantitative research design using a correlational descriptive method
with a cross-sectional approach. The sample for this research was class IX teenagers at
SMP Negeri 1 Arjawinangun, Cirebon Regency, with 65 respondents sampled using simple
random sampling. The instrument used was a questionnaire and data analysis using the
chi square statistical test with a significance value of α 0.05.
The results of the study showed that most respondents who had light physical activity
experienced moderate dysmenorrhea as much as 23.1% (15 respondents), moderate
physical activity experienced moderate dysmenorrhea as much as 24.6% (16 respondents),
and heavy physical activity experienced moderate dysmenorrhea as much as 1.5% (1
respondent). With a p-Value value in the Chi-Square test of 0.034. Because the p-Value
value of 0.034 <0.05 means that there is a relationship between physical activity and
menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) in grade IX adolescents at SMP Negeri 1 Arjawinangun,
Cirebon Regency.
