Abstract

Gastritis is an inflammatory condition that occurs in the lining of the stomach due to irritation of
the gastric mucosa. In Indonesia, gastritis cases in adolescents are the eighteenth most common
disease, with a prevalence of 60.8%. Because adolescents are often busy with various activities,
assignments, organizations, and extracurricular activities, this can cause stress. Consequently,
this age group is more susceptible to gastritis.
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between stress levels and the incidence
of gastritis among students at Nasyrul Ulum Gegesik Vocational School. This study used a
descriptive correlation design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 67
respondents using a stratified random sampling technique. The results showed that 54.7% of the
stress level was severe, and 53.1% of the gastritis incidence was severe.
Based on the Kendall's tau test with an α of 0.05, a p-value of 0.041 was obtained, concluding that
there is a relationship between stress levels and the incidence of gastritis. Stress in adolescents
can increase gastric acid production. Excessive stomach acid can irritate the gastric mucosa and
cause gastritis.
Stress-related gastritis in vocational high school students can be prevented by providing stress
management interventions, such as education on relaxation techniques, good time management,
and effective stress management. This approach is expected to reduce the risk of gastritis and
improve students' overall digestive health.
