Abstract
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a virus that weakens the body's defenses by infecting white blood cells. The number of HIV cases in the world in 2021 is estimated to reach 38.4 million. HIV statistical data in Indonesia in 2021 is 36,902 cases. The number of HIV cases in the city of Cirebon in 2021 is 254 cases. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between physical activity and body mass index in people with HIV who received ARV therapy at Gunung Jati Hospital Cirebon City.
This type of research with correlational descriptive method. The HIV population at Seroja Clinic was 765 patients from 2009 to February 2023. In this study, 62 samples were obtained using purposive sampling. A total of 62 HIV will be given the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) and BMI measurements which include measurements of weight and height. The analysis test used in this study was the Spearman rank.
The results showed that low physical activity was 43.5% for PLHIV and 56.5% for normal BMI. Spearman rank test results obtained a correlation value of 0.515 which means it has a moderate level of relationship with a positive correlation direction. The higher the physical activity carried out, the higher the body mass index of HIV patients (ρ value = 0.000, α = 0.1)
Based on the results above, it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between physical activity and body mass index in HIV at Gunung Jati Hospital, Cirebon City. This research is expected to provide education on physical activity by doing light exercise every morning and monitoring the patient's BMI.
