Abstract

The infant mortality rate according to data from the Cirebon district healthservice
reached 134 cases out of 47,530 live births consisting of 124 cases of neonatal
deaths (babies aged 0-28 days). The highest cause of neonatal death waspremature
babies with 51 cases (41.1%). Post partum mothers often experience anxiety due to
their baby's condition, with the kangaroo method aimed at reducinganxiety and
closer interaction between mother and baby. The aim of the research was to
determine the effectiveness of the Kangaroo Method of Treatment (PMK) on Post
Partum Maternal Anxiety at Mitra Plumbon Hospital, Cirebon Regency.
Experimental research with a research design form, namely One Group PretestPosttest Design. The population of postpartum mothers with premature babies
was 97. The sample was determined using a sampling technique, namely purposive
sampling using the Slovin formula. PMK is carried out twice a day for one hour,
the instrument used in this research is the Postpartum Specific Anxiety Scale
(PSAS). The research results showed that less than half of the respondents (41%)
experienced severe anxiety before PMK and (41%) experienced mild anxiety after
PMK. The results of the Wilcoxon test obtained a p value of 0.000 (<0.05), which
means that it can be concluded that the Kangaroo Method of Treatment is effective
for post-partum maternal anxiety at Mitra Plumbon Hospital. It is hoped that this
research can be used for recommendations in providing nursing care to post partum
mothers who experience anxiety.
