Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that significantly impacts quality of life, including the spiritual
well-being of sufferers. The duration of diabetes can influence how individuals accept and respond
to their illness spiritually. This study aims to determine the relationship between duration of diabetes
mellitus and spiritual well-being in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Pamengkang

Community Health Center in Cirebon Regency. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-
sectional approach. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling, with 84 respondents.

The instruments used were a demographic questionnaire and the Spiritual Health and Life
Orientation Measure (SHALOM). Chi-square test results showed a significant relationship between
duration of diabetes mellitus and spiritual well-being (p-value = 0.000). These results indicate that
the longer a patient has diabetes, the higher the level of spiritual well-being, as indicated by
acceptance of the condition, hope, and a strong spiritual connection.
