Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
is a long-term disease that can reduce the quality of life of sufferers. The main cause is symptoms
such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and limited physical activity. One psychological factor that can
influence how patients cope with this disease is self-efficacy, which is an individual's belief in their
ability to manage symptoms and undergo treatment independently. The purpose of this study was to
understand the relationship between self-efficacy and quality of life in COPD patients at Ciremai
Hospital, Cirebon City.
This study used a quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design and a cross-sectional
approach. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling, with 74 respondents. The
instruments used were the self-efficacy questionnaire and the EORTC QLQ-C30 quality of life
questionnaire. The results showed that the majority of respondents had high self-efficacy (83.8%)
and a good quality of life (82.4%). Spearman's rho test showed a significant relationship between
self-efficacy and quality of life (p=0.016; r=0.279).
Based on these results, it can be concluded that the higher a patient's self-efficacy, the better their
quality of life. Although the correlation was weak, the positive direction of the relationship
demonstrates the importance of psychological empowerment in nursing interventions for COPD
patients. These results are expected to inform the planning of educational and rehabilitative
programs focused on enhancing self-efficacy to support patient quality of life.
