Abstract

Hypertension is one of the leading causes of premature death worldwide, including in Indonesia.
Individuals with hypertension are at risk of experiencing a decline in quality of life, which can be
influenced by various factors, one of which is family support. Optimal support from the family can play
a crucial role in helping patients control blood pressure and maintain a sustainable healthy lifestyle.
This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and the quality of life of
individuals with hypertension in the working area of Mundu Public Health Center, Cirebon Regency.
This research used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 95
respondents who had hypertension and lived with their families, selected using non-probability
sampling with a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were the family support
questionnaire (PSS-Fa) and the WHOQoL-BREF questionnaire for quality of life. Data were analyzed
using the Chi-Square test.
The results showed that most respondents received a moderate level of family support (42.1%), and the
majority had a good quality of life (52.6%). The statistical test results indicated a significant
relationship between family support and the quality of life of individuals with hypertension (p-value =
0.000). The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between family support
and the quality of life in individuals with hypertension. Families are expected to be more actively
involved in providing support to help improve patients’ quality of life.
