Abstract
Dietary compliance in diabetes mellitus patients is an effort to control excessively high
blood sugar levels through dietary management. Dietary management is carried out by
following the principles of the Diabetes Mellitus diet, namely by implementing 3 actions,
including: paying attention to the amount of food, the type of food consumed, and meal
schedules. This study aims to determine the relationship between DM dietary compliance
and blood sugar levels in Type 2 DM patients at the Internal Medicine Clinic of Cideres
Regional Hospital. This type of research uses an observational analytical method with a
cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with the
Slovin formula obtained 82 respondents of Type 2 DM patients at the Internal Medicine
Clinic of Cideres Regional Hospital who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the
researcher. The instruments used were questionnaires and standardized measuring
instruments, namely Glucometers. Data analysis used the chi-square test with a
significance value of α = 0.05.
The results of the study showed that 34 people (41.5%) were not compliant with the DM
diet, and 48 people (58.5%) were compliant with the DM diet. For the GDS levels of
patients, 41 people (50%) had uncontrolled GDS levels, and 41 people (50%) had
controlled GDS levels. The results of the statistical test using the chi-square test showed a
p value of p = 0.000 (<0.05) which means there is a relationship between DM diet
compliance and blood sugar levels in DM patients in the Internal Medicine polyclinic of
Cideres Regional Hospital.
The study concluded that the more patients adhered to the diabetes diet, the better their
blood sugar levels tended to be in the Internal Medicine clinic at Cideres Regional
Hospital. The study findings can be followed up by patients following the recommended
diabetes diet, and the hospital can conduct health education programs about diabetes and
diet options for patients.
