Abstract
Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases with an increasing prevalence and
is a leading cause of complications such as stroke and heart disease. One of the strategies
in controlling hypertension is through good self-care behavior, which is strongly
influenced by the level of patients’ self-efficacy. This study aimed to analyze the
correlation between self-efficacy and self-care behavior among hypertensive patients in
the working area of Dukupuntang Community Health Center, Cirebon Regency.
This research employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The study
population consisted of 387 hypertensive patients, with a sample of 80 respondents
selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a self-efficacy
questionnaire and a self-care behavior questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using
the Spearman rank correlation test.
The results showed that most respondents had high self-efficacy (53.8%) and favorable
self-care behavior (51.3%). The Spearman rank correlation test revealed a correlation
coefficient of 0.650, indicating a strong and significant relationship between self-efficacy
and self-care behavior (p-value = 0.000; α = 0.05). The higher the level of self-efficacy,
the better the self-care behavior performed.
These findings suggest the importance of providing health education to improve self-
efficacy and self-care behavior among hypertensive patients so that self-care can be
carried out consistently and optimally.
