Abstract

Parental parenting is one of the important factors that influence children's
psychological development, including mental health during adolescence and young
adulthood. Students as individuals in the final phase of adolescent development are
susceptible to mental disorders, which can be influenced by the parenting style
received during their growth and development. This study aims to determine the
relationship between parental parenting patterns and mental health in nursing
students at ITEKes Mahardika Cirebon. This study uses a quantitative approach
with a descriptive analytical design and cross-sectional method. The research
sample was all students of the Nursing Study Program in semesters 2 to 8, totaling
350 people, taken using the total sampling technique. The instruments used were
the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) and Mental Health Inventory (MHI)
questionnaires. Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately using
the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was a significant relationship
between parenting patterns and students' mental health (p <0.05).
