RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE OF WOMEN OF FERTILE AGE (WUS) AND MOTIVATION TO EXAMINE BREAST SELF IN WORK AREA UPTD PUSKESMAS JAMBLANG CIREBON REGENCY

Breast cancer is a type of cancer with the highest incidence and mortality rates in
Indonesia. One way to detect breast cancer early is by performing breast self-examination
(BSE). However, the level of BSE practice among women of childbearing age (WUS) is still
low. Knowledge and motivation are important factors that influence the implementation of
BSE. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge of women of
childbearing age (WUS) and motivation to perform breast self-examination in the work
area of UPTD Puskesmas Jamblang. This study uses a quantitative approach with a
correlation study design and a cross-sectional approach. The population is all women of
childbearing age in the work area of UPTD Puskesmas Jamblang totaling 8,763 people,
with a sampling of 99 respondents taken using the konsekuentif sampling technique. The
instruments used are knowledge questionnaires (20 items, Guttman scale) and motivation
(15 items, ordinal scale). Data were analyzed using Spearman Rho with a significance level
of a = 0.05. The results of the analysis showed that the majority of respondents had
sufficient knowledge (55.5%) and motivation was in the good category (73.3%). Spearman
Rho test showed a significant relationship between knowledge and motivation to perform
BSE (p value = 0.040 and r = 0.207), which means the higher the knowledge, the higher
the motivation to perform BSE.
