Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas
cannot produce enough insulin hormone or when it does not effectively use the
insulin produced. One effort to reduce blood sugar levels using nonpharmacological methods is water therapy. Water therapy is healing by alleviating
various complaints in the body. Therapy is given by consuming 2.5 liters of water
per day for 3 days. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of water
therapy on reducing blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus at
Waled Hospital, Cirebon Regency. Quantitative research method with a quasiexperimental approach with a one group pretest-posttest design with a purposive
sampling method. The population in this study was 36 people with a sample size of
27 people. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate using the paired T-test
statistical test. The results of the study showed that there was an effect of water
therapy on reducing blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus with
a P-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), with an average blood sugar level before being given
water therapy of 322.19mg/dl and blood sugar levels after water therapy
311.59mg/dl.
