Abstract
Physical activity is any movement of the body caused by skeletal muscles and requires
energy. Sleep quality is a state where individuals are able to maintain sleep and get the
right amount of sleep. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship
between physical activity and sleep quality in the elderly in Cipakem Village, Maleber
Health Center Working Area. This study used quantitative methods using a correlational
design with a cross sectional approach.
The population in this study were elderly residents of cipakem village, maleber subdistrict, brass district, totaling 924 elderly people and the sampling technique used the
slovin formula 90 respondents. The research instrument used the Global Physical Activity
Quisionnaire (GPAQ) and Pitssburgh Sleep Quality Indeq (PSQI) questionnaires and data
analysis using the Spearman Rank test.
The results of this study found that most of the respondents had high physical activity as
many as 62 respondents (68.9%) and most of the sleep quality was good 71 respondents
(78.9%). The results of the spearman rank test obtained P value = 0.002 <0.05, it means
that there is a significant relationship between the physical activity variable and the
quality of elderly sleep with a correlation coefficient of -0.344 indicating the strength
level of the correlation relationship between the physical activity variable and the quality
of sleep is weak.
