Abstract
Violent behavior is one of the manifestations of mental disorders that
requires special handling, one of which is through the use of restraints. The
application of restraints must be carried out in accordance with Standard
Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure the safety of both patients and nurses.
Nurses' knowledge is a crucial factor in the proper implementation of restraints.
This study aims to determine the relationship between nurses’ knowledge and the
implementation of SOP-based restraint procedures on patients with violent
behavior at Arjawinangun Regional Public Hospital, Cirebon Regency.
This research employed a descriptive correlational design with a cross-
sectional approach. The population consisted of all implementing nurses in the
Patimura Ward and Emergency Room of Arjawinangun Regional Public Hospital
in March 2025, totaling 57 nurses. The sampling technique used was total
sampling, involving all 57 respondents. Data were analyzed using univariate
analysis (percentage) and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test (χ2).
The results showed that the majority of respondents (72.72%) had good
knowledge of restraints on violent patients, and most respondents (89.47%)
implemented restraints in accordance with SOPs. The statistical test using the
Fisher Exact Test showed a p-value of 0.000 (< α = 0.05), indicating that the
alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This means there is a significant
relationship between nurses’ knowledge of restraints and the implementation of
restraints on patients with violent behavior at Arjawinangun Regional Public
Hospital.
These findings indicate that improving nurses’ knowledge greatly influences
the compliance with SOPs for restraint procedures. Thus, strengthening nurses’
competencies through training and technical guidance is highly recommended as a
strategic effort to improve patient safety and the quality of nursing care.
