Abstract
Anxiety is caused by various states of worry, restlessness, fear, unease
accompanied by various physical complaints and physical disorders. One of the risk
factors for hypertension is anxiety. The number of elderly people who experience
hypertension in the Indramayu Regency Patrol Health Center work area in 2023 is 996.
The aim of this research is to determine correlation between anxiety levels and
hypertension in the elderly in the Indramayu Regency Patrol Health Center work area.
This research method is descriptive correlation using a cross sectional approach.
The sample for this study was the elderly in the Patrol Health Center work area, totaling
91 respondents using a simple random sampling technique, an instrument using the
Geriatric Anxiety Scale (GAS) and a hypertension observation sheet. Data analysis used
the Spearman Rank test.
The results of the study showed that the majority (57.1%) of respondents
experienced a moderate level of anxiety and almost half (33.0%) of respondents had
level I hypertension. The Spearman rank test results showed a significant, weak and
positive relationship between anxiety level and hypertension in advanced age
(p=0,001;= 0,005;r= 0,356).
This research suggestion can pay attention to the elderly, can develop elderly
programs including posbindu training, elderly exercise activities, group activity
therapy, counseling and education for the elderly.
