Abstract
Approximately 26.4% of the world's elderly population suffers from degenerative
diseases. High blood pressure can be prevented by implementing lifestyle changes.
Regular physical activity also plays a role in strengthening muscles, preventing
falls, and improving the health and ability of elderly people to remain independent.
This study is a quantitative research using a descriptive correlational design with a
cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used simple random sampling,
with data collected through the PASE physical activity questionnaire and analyzed
using the chi-square test. The sample size consisted of 73 elderly respondents with
a history of hypertension. The majority of respondents had stage 3 hypertension (30
respondents, 41.1%), and 46 respondents (63%) engaged in heavy physical activity.
The results of this study indicate a significant correlation between physical activity
and the incidence of hypertension among the elderly in Slatri, Brebes District, with
a p-value (<0.001).
Elderly individuals with heavy physical activity may experience an increase in
blood pressure, thereby increasing the likelihood of complications. Therefore, the
elderly need to make greater efforts to control their physical activity. However, the
elderly should not completely cease heavy physical activity, as it can also be
beneficial for their health as long as it is feasible and within their capabilities.
