Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a clinical syndrome of metabolic disorders. Based on the
International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the number of diabetes sufferers in the world in
2021 reached 537 million and Indonesia was ranked 5th with 19.5 million sufferers, then
predicted to reach 28.6 million sufferers in 2045. As the role of medical recorders and
Health Information (PMIK) as a coder must be able to provide the correct code to be
included in the medical record. The purpose of this study was to determine the percentage
of accuracy of coding in inpatients with a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus at the Sumber
Waras Hospital Cirebon Regency.
The type of research used in this study is quantitative descriptive with an
observation method on medical records of diabetes mellitus diagnoses at Sumber Waras
Hospital and the instrument used is a checklist sheet. The sampling technique uses simple
random sampling. The number of samples is 78 medical records.
The results of this study showed that 50 (64.10%) medical records were inaccurate
and 28 (35.90%) medical records were correct. Thus, the conclusion in this study was that
there were more inaccurate codes than correct codes in the January-March period (Quarter
I). It’s recommended that staff with at least a diploma in medical records be assigned to the
registration department.
This should be used as a reference in lectures. Furthermore, increase case practice
and attend coding training or seminars to increase knowledge and experience in coding,
particularly for diabetes mellitus diagnoses. Consult frequently with coding lecturers or
experienced coders regarding coding.
