Abstract

The coding process for the diagnosis of premature rupture of membranes (PROM)
is one of the key functions of medical records services. The assessment of medical record
officers' performance in coding accuracy includes indicators such as quality, quantity,
timeliness, effectiveness, and independence. Inconsistencies were found between medical
information and the assigned diagnosis codes at Muhammadiyah General Hospital,
Cirebon. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the performance of
medical record officers and the accuracy of coding PROM cases.
This research employed a descriptive-analytic method with a quantitative
approach. The sample included 4 medical record officers and 68 PROM medical record
documents from January 2024 to March 2025. Data were collected through questionnaires
(performance assessment) and observation sheets (coding accuracy). Data analysis was
conducted using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test to assess
variable relationships.
The results showed that 2 officers had good performance and 2 had adequate
performance. The effectiveness indicator dominated with a percentage of 73.33%,
indicating that officers' effectiveness was well-implemented. Of the documents, 46 (67.6%)
were categorized as accurate and 22 (32.4%) as inaccurate. The Chi-Square Test analysis
yielded a p-value of 0.120, which is greater than α = 0.05, indicating that there is no
significant relationship between the performance of medical record officers and the
accuracy of coding in cases of premature rupture of membranes.
In conclusion, this study found no significant association between the performance
of medical record officers and the accuracy of coding for premature rupture of membranes
at Muhammadiyah General Hospital, Cirebon City. It is recommended that hospital staff
exercise greater attention to detail in the coding process, and future research should
consider increasing the sample size of medical record officers
