THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PHYSICAL CONDITIONS OF HOMES AND THE INCIDENCE OF ACUTE RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS IN TODDLERS IN THE WORKING AREA OF THE PESISIR COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER IN CIREBON CITY

The physical condition of houses in the Pesisir Community Health Center
(Puskesmas Pesisir) area of Cirebon City still lacks ventilation, is squalid and
overcrowded. These conditions pose a risk of various illnesses in toddlers, one of
which is Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI). This study aims to determine the
relationship between the physical condition of houses and the incidence of ARI in
toddlers in the Pesisir Community Health Center area of Cirebon City.
This study was an observational and analytical study with a cross-sectional
design. The instruments used were observation sheets, measuring tape, and a lux
meter. The sample size was 78 people within the Pesisir Community Health Center
(Puskesmas) in Cirebon City. Simple random sampling was used for the sampling.
Univariate and bivariate analyses were conducted, and the chi-square test was used
for statistical testing.
The results of the study showed that the physical environment of the house,
mostly 53 (67.9%) did not meet the requirements and the majority of ISPA cases
were 48 (61.5%). The results of the statistical test using the chi-square test obtained
a p-value of 0.001 <0.05, which indicates that there is a relationship between the
physical condition of the house and the incidence of ISPA in toddlers in the work
area of the Pesisir Health Center, Cirebon City.
The results of this research are expected to increase knowledge and be able
to find solutions to the physical conditions of the house that influence the
occurrence of ARI in toddlers.
