Abstract

Poor environmental sanitation is a major risk factor for the spread of this disease. Scabies
is a contagious skin disease common in densely populated environments such as Islamic
boarding schools. This study aims to determine the relationship between environmental

sanitation and the incidence of scabies among male students at the Nadwatul Banin-
Nadwatul Banat Buntet Islamic Boarding School in Cirebon Regency in 2025.

This research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach and a descriptive
correlational design. The population in this study were all 65 male students at the Nadwatul
Banin-Nadwatul Banat Buntet Islamic Boarding School, using total sampling as the
sampling technique. The instruments used were a questionnaire and an observation sheet.
Data were analyzed using the chi-square test.
The results showed that most dormitories had poor environmental sanitation (69.6%) and
a moderate prevalence of scabies (51.8%). The bivariate analysis showed a significant
relationship between environmental sanitation and scabies incidence, with a p-value of
0.001(p<0.05).
This research suggests the importance of improving environmental sanitation in Islamic
boarding schools to prevent the spread of scabies. This includes improving hygiene
facilities, reducing overcrowding, and increasing student awareness of the importance of
clean and healthy living practices.
